Sephora Hello Kitty Milk Money Makeup Bag and Ruby Compact MIrror review

I have a friend, who would have loved these accessories. I can image her using them and loving their aesthetic and just cherishing the youthful cute-ness that are embodied in this Milk Money Makeup Bag and Ruby Compact Mirror. However, this is not exactly my aesthetic, so I can't say I relate.

Hello Kitty Milk Money Makeup Bag* ($39CDN) is a vinyl purse with a rounded star design clasp. It is not the most useful makeup bag since the opening is much smaller than its capacity which makes rooting around a necessity.

Once it’s open and you have your hand inside, it’s hard to expand and though the flat shape makes it sit thinly in your purse, its not very functional. I'm showing you how wide it can open. I've pushed my fingers apart as far as they would go so you can see how slender the gap is to fit your hand in and pull the items out.

Hello Kitty Ruby Compact Mirror* ($59CDN) is plastic compact mirror covered in nearly 300 handplaced "jewels". Some reviewers on Sephora’s website mentioned that these were supposed to be Swarovski crystals but I do not see that stated on the packaging or the official description.

The "jewels" seem like the plastic/paste variety and are definitely not like any Swarovski crystals I’ve seen.  From afar, this compact is very impressive and give a great shiny, expensive look. Up close, the plastic becomes apparent and I can already see this looking more and more worn as the "jewels" ( I refuse to type jewels without the quotations hahaha) get banged up. I've shown you the compact from different angles so you can sort of see how paste-like they look. For $60 (!!), I expect more, at least metal and at least some better quality rhinestones. I wouldn’t have minded less rhinestones had they been better quality.

Functionally this doesn’t work either. Since the frame is reflective, your eyes try to accommodate to the frame around the mirror as well as the mirror itself. Up close use is fine but trying to see your full face inside the mirror trips out my eyes as attempt to focus solely on the mirror and not on the reflection in the frame as well.

As much as I like look of FRUitS, proponents of who I think would be jumping all over this, these pieces don't fit into my aesthetic and simply are not functional. The Hello Kitty mirror has a lot of potential but the execution was not a winner. The Makeup bag just isn't large enough.

Have you picked any of these up?
